Bodge Master!!!

Ok so my husband is not well known for his DIY or fixing skills. The girls may call him Fix It Daddy but that is because he can fix plastic toys with gaffer tape and change batteries. I call him the Bodge Master. So I was not holding out much hope when dearest husband said he would look at the broken sewing machine. The chances of him fixing it were slim. BUT I'll be darned he has gone and found a bodge that allows the thing to work. It will still need to go for a proper repair but until I can get it to the store at the weekend it will do.

To celebrate I made this cushion cover. It has already been jumped on and used as a camp wall by the two girls so I guess it was a success.

Hooray for the Bodge Master!!!

Clunk

Today was going so well. Lovely morning with the girls and my husband took them out this afternoon so I could do a bit of sewing. Sewing away nicely then clunk, nothing moving, complete sewing machine stall. I have had a little dig about but can't seem to get the thing working. Very many hardcore swear words have been uttered. Thank goodness the girls are not here to witness their mother turning into a raving, swearing monster! I have had to refrain from throwing it out the window. Now I have to find somewhere that fixes sewing machines. There must be somewhere in Helsinki mustn't there? Anyone know the Finnish for 'my sewing machine is up the swanee!'????

Cutting

Not a great deal of sewing over the last week. I have been cutting up all my fabric for my month in We Bee Modern Too. The little parcels need to go out this week. I hope my maths is ok and I am sending everyone enough!

I did manage to make another little pouch. I am getting much better at zips and zipper tabs. I am going to keep this one for putting bits and bobs in. You can never have enough bits and bobs pouches!

Granny pouch

I had a whole hour off today! Big daughter has started nursery a couple of mornings a week so I could do a bit of sewing while the little daughter had her nap. Now obviously I could have done the washing, cleaning, ironing all that stuff but quite frankly life is too short so I made this instead.

All in all a pretty productive day!

Bees, Grannies and Aunties

I finished my We Bee Modern Too block for Heather yesterday. It was a great block to put together and I think it will make a stunning quilt. Heather is going to make it into a charity quilt for a teenager.

I am queen bee for April, I just hope my material turns up soon!

I have also jumped on the Granny block bandwagon. They are such a great way to use up scraps. Mine is pretty girly. I think I might make them into a mini quilt for the girls' bedroom.

And last but not least I became an Auntie again on Friday. Congratulations to my brother and his lovely wife. Hope to see some pictures of the little guy soon. Better get on with making his quilt!

WIP Wednesday

It's DONE,  the Chevrons quilt top is done.  This one has been a challenge but I have learnt so much from it. My points are getting better, so are my seams, pressing, all the little bits that are so important in making a quilt. I may not love it but it feels like I have made so much progress in making it.

If I ever say I am making anything from loads of HSTs again just remind me how much I struggle with them!

Super Duper Day

No sewing but a super duper day, sun shining, not too cold and a walk on the ocean.

Spring is at last on its way. Things are melting and if you look really close there are even buds on the tree, Yipeee!!!!

Modern Mini

Here is my modern mini. The idea was to try something new and I really wanted to push myself a little bit. I have never machine quilted before and I have never tried such a 'bold' quilting pattern (well bold for me, it is only squares and rectangles after all). I tried them both here. I am so chuffed with how it turned out. I really was not sure about the grey but the quilting really breaks it up and gives it a lovely texture. It now has pride of place in my bedroom and it makes me smile every time I see it.

And here it is washed and gorgeously crinkly!
